Robert Lee Atkyns, age 76 years, of Kingwood Township, NJ, passed away the evening of Friday, June 14, 2024, at his residence.

Born in Boston, MA, January 20, 1948, he was the son of the late of Glenn C. and Syme M. (Vataja) A. Bachelor.

Highly educated, he earned his Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University in 1971, Master of Arts from the University of Connecticut in 1974, and his Doctor of Philosophy from Temple University in 1986.

Robert had a long and successful career as a communications research professional with several entities, including the American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). There, he worked in marketing, advertising, research and development, and public policy.

Throughout his career, he was the recipient of numerous awards including, the Community Service Award of Cheltenham Township, PA; American Telephone & Telegraph Company Eagle award, 1986, and the American Telephone & Telegraph Company Spirit Communication awards, 1990 & 1991.

He was the former Chairman of the Cheltenham Township Drug, Alcohol and Mental Health Committee; Member of the Flemington Presbyterian Church; the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the International Communication Association; the American Association for Public Opinion Research; the American Marketing Association; the American Public Health Association; and the American Academy of Political and Social Science.

He also had a deep appreciation for the arts, something he and his late wife, Michele, enjoyed together.

He was predeceased by his wife, the late Michele Donahue, who passed away in 2020.

Cremation will be private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822.
