Robert Leo Burgard, passed away peacefully in Elkton, MD on November 26, 2021 at age 82.
Born on July 18, 1939 in Los Angeles, California, to Anna (Boedekker) and Joseph Burgard, he was the youngest of six children. He was nominated to the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1961.Soon after graduation, he married Marie Kathleen Kerr. Together, they had three children.
Bob was honorably discharged in 1966 and subsequently flew for Eastern Airlines until his retirement in 1989. He redirected and retrained in Financial Services, and was employed by Chester Herder Agency and Shive, Wright and Exton. In 1993, Kathy passed away.
He married Barbara in 1995 gaining five stepchildren, who loved him.
Bob loved his family, and flying very much, but his entire life was about service; altar boy, Eagle Scout, navy pilot, President of the Parent, Teacher and Student Organization of South Hunterdon High School, as well as President of the Music Parents Association. He served as chair of the Board of the Hunterdon Unit of the American Cancer Society, President of the Flemington Rotary where he originated and grew the Hunterdon County Rotary Soup Cookoff. Bob was named a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and Rotarian of the Year. After retirement, and the move to Maryland, he joined the Aberdeen Rotary, served as an interim President, chaired the Scholarship Committee and was named Rotarian of the Year in 2019.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, siblings Lucille Mossbacher, Rosemarie Buffum, Joseph, John and two stepdaughters, Kate MacDonald and Carla Nowell.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, sister Doris Hayes, daughter Deanna Duncan (Greg), and their children Erin Hamilton (Alan) and great- granddaughter River, Chris McDonald (Meghan) and great grandson Finn, William McDonald, and Caity Duncan, son Robert (Eileen) and their children Charlie, Joseph and Mark and daughter Kristina, step-children Nina Drinnan (Scott), their children Emily, Phil, Sarah and great-grandson Jameson, Andrew Graham (Dawna) and their son Dylan, and Chris Graham (Sandy). He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 44 Bridge Street, Lambertville NJ. Interment will be private. Friends may gather beginning at 9:30 on Friday morning at the church prior to the Mass. Those attending are encouraged to wear masks and practice physical distancing.
