Robert P. Powers, age 88 years, died Friday, January 25, 2019, at Stonebridge at Montgomery in Skillman NJ. He has lived in the Hunterdon and Somerset County areas since 1973.
Born March 4, 1930 in Rahway NJ, Bob was the son of the late John J. and Helen C. (Greiner) Powers. He graduated from Seton Hall University and worked for more than 35 years for Hess Oil as a Vice President and Assistant to the Chairman, Leon Hess. While working for Hess, he and his late wife, Frances, traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting many exotic lands in their trips.
Bob was a member of the US Army National Guard, as well as at St. Magdalen Church in Flemington. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. James Church earlier when residing in Woodbridge, NJ. After retirement, Bob and Frances traveled throughout Europe and Florida and he enjoyed the casinos, taking in a favorite card game or slots.
Bob was a HUGE NY Yankees and NY Jets fan and loved to take in a game with friends and family. He loved to dance with his wife at any chance they could get, as well as to sing, showcasing his gorgeous tenor voice at weddings and other social functions. He was a former member of the Hunterdon Harmonizers and became actively involved in the Stonebridge Singers while living in Montgomery.
Most of all, Bob loved to make people laugh. His infectious sense of humor and unique wit made him an instant hit with anyone he met. Whether it was playing his favorite game of pinochle or enjoying some music, spending time with his family and friends was the most important part of Bob’s incredible life.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, John “Jack” Powers, his sister, Geraldine Warren, and his wife, Frances in 2007. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John Robert and Joan Powers, his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn Ann Powers and Matteo Giordano, III, and Lori Jane and Steven Pasternack all of Hillsborough NJ, eleven grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
