Robert Paul Wunder

July 28, 1940 — January 27, 2014

Robert Paul Wunder, age 73 years, of Flemington, NJ, died on Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home.

Born July 28, 1940 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of Robert H. and Margaret H. Schalk Wunder. An alumnus of Roger Bacon High School, Mr. Wunder received a degree in Business Administration from Xavier University. He moved to Flemington in 1970, when he was transferred with American Hoechst Pharmaceuticals. Even though the company's name changed througout his career, (including Hoechst-Celanese), Mr. Wunder's 30-year tenure was always in human resources.

After retiring from his job at Celanese, Mr. Wunder and several partners launched a pharmaceutical consulting firm, naming it the Franklin Group. The Franklin Group was bought later by InVentiv; and when Mr. Wunder retired from there, the company he started with a handful of people had grown to over 300 employees, an accomplishment that made him extremely proud. It was rewarding to him to employ hard working people, provide opportunity for others, and encourage them along the way.

As a dad and grandpa, Mr. Wunder enjoyed watching the many Flemington Falcons, Flemington-Raritan Community Pool and sporting events of his children and grandchildren. An avid Hunterdon Central fan, he continued attending numerous games, matches and meets, long after his children graduated. He loved swimming, taking long walks on the beach, spending time with his family, golfing, playing cards, and reading the newspaper. He was a longtime member of St. Magdalen’s Church and Copper Hill Country Club. For a time, Mr. Wunder was the president of the Italian-American Club; though he had no Italian heritage, he appreciated the close-knit community.

Mr. Wunder is pre-deceased by his wife, Linda Jane (Watters) Wunder, his parents, and a brother, Terry Wunder.

Surviving are his sister, Margo Schooley and family, of Cincinnati; his six children and their spouses, Robin Brand of Pittstown, NJ, Tracy and Ken Malito of Herndon, VA, Lori and Bryan Wheeler of Florence, KY, Matthew and Suzanne Wunder of Asbury, NJ, Douglas Wunder of Flemington, and Alexander Wunder of Flemington; and 13 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
