Rodney Reeder, age 88 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2008, in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Wilmington, DE, November 2, 1919, he was the son of the late Cecil and Emma Welch Reeder.

He is survived by his son Kenneth and wife Bonnie of Flemington; 5 grandchildren: Amy Simonson of Solon Ohio, Megan Eagleburger of Stewartsville NJ, David Reeder of North Plainfield NJ, Brian Reeder and Kelly Rasin both of New Castle Delaware, and eight great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife Esther, his son Charles, and brothers Charles and Robert and sister Anna.

Mr. Reeder was a WW2 Navy Veteran and was honorably discharged from mililtary service in 1946. He served, among other stations, on the USS Tawakoni and was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.

Mr. Reeder had lived in Wilmington and Newark Delaware, and retired in Milton Delaware where he lived 34 years until recently making his home with his son in Flemington. He retired in 1964, a firefighter with the City of Wilmington for 22 years. He worked as Chief of Security at the University of Delaware for ten years, retiring in 1974.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Delware Veterans Memorial Chapel, Bear Delaware, on Friday, September 19, at 11 a.m. under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
