Roger William Long, age 71 years, of Hunterdon County, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, November 29, 1947, he was the son of Doris Mary Lamoreaux Long of Edison, NJ, and the late Earl William Long.
Roger retired from AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he was a supervisor at their Solid State Technology in Breinigsville, PA.
Roger was a Ham Radio Operator, and a former member of the Cherryville Repeater Association. Thanks to his father, he had an interest in all things mechanical. He enjoyed working on cars, especially his Corvair and his wife’s Porsche; for many years he and his wife crewed for a friend who raced a Porsche in the SCCA races on the east coast. He took pride in building train and car models both from kits and from scratch, and even built radio-controlled models of a 4-foot long cargo ship, a 3-foot sailboat and a helicopter.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of forty-seven years, Rosleen Long; and his brothers, Gordon Long of Frenchtown, NJ, and Scott Long of Union Beach, NJ.
A Memorial Service will be announced under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment was private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunterdon Medical Center ICU, 2100 Westcott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.
