Russell W. Atkinson, age 75 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at his home.
Born in Somerville, NJ, September 22, 1947, he was the son of the late Russell and Betty (Welsh) Atkinson. He grew up in Clinton Township, NJ and had resided most of his life in Hunterdon County, NJ, living in Raritan Township since 1982.
Growing up, he was an active member of The Boy Scouts of America and even attained the rank of Eagle Scout. In his youth, he enjoyed playing the bugle and trumpet and attended the Lebanon Reformed Church, Lebanon, NJ with his family.
Russ earned his B.S. from Baldwin Wallace University and then married his wife, Elizabeth “Cam” Austin Atkinson. They were married for 44 years until her passing in 2014. As a young man he worked for Cam’s family at AMI and then eventually started his own business, AVID Associates, Inc., which he ran as Owner and CEO for the last 30 years, retiring in 2021.
Along with his work, he was a lover of sports cars, boats and deep-sea fishing, and animals. The family always had pets which included dogs, cats, and even a horse.
In addition to his parents and late wife, he was predeceased by his son, Geoffrey Atkinson, who died in 2013. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Mike Asaro, of Mountainside, NJ; two grandchildren, Elizabeth “Ellie” Asaro and Margaret “Daisy” Asaro, both at home; as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and John Lloyd, of Lebanon Township, NJ.
Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in the family plot in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ.
