Rutger Rosenborg, age 83 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died on June 9, 2007, at Chandler Hall Hospice, Newtown, PA.
Born in Geneva, Switzerland, January 30, 1924, he was the son of the late Ansgar and Sigrid Rosenborg. He moved to the United States in 1940 when the League of Nations Economic Finance and Transit Mission, for whom his father was a Deputy Director, moved to the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University.
Mr. Rosenborg was a graduate of the Ecole International De Geneve and Princeton University Class of 1946. His studies were interrupted by World War II. Mr. Rosenborg joined the United States Army famed Tenth Mountain Division where after training in both Texas and Colorado, he served primarily in the Italian theatre of operations. He earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Prior to resuming his studies at Princeton University, he was a translator in both Austria and Germany.
Rutger joined American Express and was posted to various locations, including Stockholm, Sao Paolo, Brussels, Paris, and New York. He was Vice President in charge of Travel Service Offices in the Western Hemisphere, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Rosenborg moved to Pennfields Farm, East Amwell Township, NJ, and supported his wife of fifty years, Suzanne Zinser Rosenborg, who died in July of 2005. Suzanne was a thoroughbred horse trainer: one of only two females in the country to achieve this distinction.
Surviving are five children: Richard Rosenborg of San Diego, CA, Eric Rosenborg of New Providence, NJ, Jennifer R. Fricke of San Diego, CA., Victoria Rosenborg-Street of Wilton, CT, and Karina Rosenborg-Viornery of South Fallsburg, NY; ten grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Rosenborg, of Washington, DC.
Funeral services and interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
