Ruth E. Charous

Ruth E. Charous, age 86 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at her residence.

Born in Raritan Township, NJ, July 28, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William U. and Elizabeth Leigh Bohren.

She lived within a mile of where she was born all her life.

She was retired from the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, where she operated the original snack bar there and was later a cook there.

She was the oldest member of the Flemington United Methodist Church where she formerly taught Sunday School, and where she chaired many luncheons for the Flemington Lions Club and Flemington Kiwanis Club. She was a life member of the Grandview Grange, Flemington, NJ, where she was instrumental in preparing meals for many organizations. She was an avid button collector belonging to the Button Collectors State and National Associations. She formerly operated a booth at the Flemington Fairgrounds Flea Market.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, crosswords, and auctions.

Her husband of fifty years, Charles R. Charous, died in 1988. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Charous and Betty Stiles, both of Raritan Township, NJ; five grandchildren; Timothy Charous and his wife, Pam, of Bloomsbury, NJ, Jeffrey Charous and his wife, Valerie, of Harmony, NJ, Kim Doyle and Wm. David Doyle, both of Flemington, NJ, and James Doyle of Lebanon, NJ; and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Maizie Bohren and Eleanor Sutphin, and three brothers, Frank, William, and James Bohren, all died earlier.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday in Newell Cemetery, Foothill Road, Stanton, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There will be no calling hours.
