Ruth E. Smith

Ruth E. Smith, age 93 years, long-time Flemington Borough, NJ resident, passed away on Wednesday, February 07, 2024, at the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Flemington, NJ, February 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Herman H. Antes, Sr. and Anna A. (Bittenmaster) Antes. She was a lifelong Hunterdon County, NJ resident.

Ruth was formerly employed in the housekeeping business. She and her late mother would clean houses and offices here locally. She will also be remembered as the “family caretaker”, a devoted and caring aunt.

In her spare time, Ruth was an avid NASCAR fan, rooting for Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale, Jr. for the entirety of their careers. Additionally, she enjoyed walking and could always be seen taking her daily stroll all over Flemington.

She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Smith, who died in 2000, as well as her siblings, Herman H. Antes, Jr. and Janet Smith.

Surviving are her sister, Patricia Ernst of Beaufort, SC; as well as her niece Linda, and her husband William Saunders and their family of Hainesport, NJ, and her niece Cheryl, and her husband Gary Ostman and their family, of Hopatcong, NJ.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Graveside services and burial, next to her late husband, will immediately follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ.
