Ruth M. Cherwinski

Ruth M. Cherwinski, age 94, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at her home in Raritan Township NJ. Born May 21, 1926, in Brooklyn NY, Ruth was the daughter of the late Robert and Sarah Church. She was married for many years to the late Zdzislaw Cherwinski, who predeceased her in 2003. Ruth and Zdzislaw loved to dance, especially to Big Band music, whether it was a wedding or some other function, they were often dancing the night away. Ruth was one of the warmest and loving people that you could meet. She always had a kind word, a hug, or a simple smile to make even the most difficult situations better. Ruth will be missed by so many family and friends that were fortunate enough to have even one conversation with her. In addition to her husband, Ruth was predeceased by her sons, Lance Cherwinski in 2000 and Brian Cherwinski earlier this year, as well as her siblings, Robert Church, George Church, and Eleanor Walker. Ruth is survived by two sons and their spouses, Wayne and Bonnie Cherwinski of Somerville NJ, and Bruce and Kathleen Cherwinski of Annandale NJ, her daughter, Sharon Sornberger of Flemington NJ, and her daughter and spouse, Suzanne and Tom Carey of McKinney TX. Also surviving her are seventeen grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brett, Cynthia, Nicole, Jaime, Carly, Christopher, Michael, Heather, Holly, Jeremy, Melissa, Jimmy, Robert, April, Keith, and Alexander. She was also lovingly known as “G.G.” to her thirty six great-grandchildren. A memorial service to honor Ruth will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00 until the time of service at the funeral home. Cremation will be held privately.
