Ruth M. Hallenbeck, age 80 years, of Raritan Township NJ, died Monday, December 9th at Hunterdon Medical Center.
Ruth was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 13, 1932, daughter of the late Charles J. and Ruth Curry Rooney; she resided in Mineola and Hicksville, Long Island and Saratoga Springs, NY before moving to Raritan Township in 1977.
She excelled in High School at Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica, Queens. She earned degrees in Education and Math from SUNY Albany and went on to earn a master degree in Education from Hofstra University in Long Island, NY. She taught Middle School in Massapequa, NY for two years prior starting her family.
Ruth was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and loyal friend. She was a member of St. Magdalen Di Pazzi Parish in Flemington and volunteered in the National Blue Army at Our Lady of Fatima in Washington, NJ. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. She had a flair for art and she and her husband shared an interest in photography, both receiving local recognition from the HCL Amateur Photographers of Hunterdon County, sponsored through the Hunterdon County Library. She enjoyed driving, especially day trips through Hunterdon County and Eastern PA, as well as traveling throughout New England.
Her husband of fifty six years, Roger F. Hallenbeck died in September, 2013.
Surviving Ruth are her brothers, Charles, and his wife Lee Rooney of Montclair, NJ and Michael, and his wife Carol of East Windsor, NJ, as well as her children, Mark, and his wife April Hallenbeck of New York City, Susan Hallenbeck of Arlington, VA, Mary, and her husband David Garzillo of Bridgewater, NJ and Amy, and her husband Craig Maddaluna of Flemington, NJ and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, Friday December 13, 2013 at St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9 pm at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
