Ruth V. Collins, age 96 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Rolling Hills Care Center, Clinton Township, NJ.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, August 23, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Anne Smith and John King.
Ruth retired as an underwriter from Crum and Foster Insurance Company. She moved to the Flemington area in 2003.
Ruth was active in many organizations in Brooklyn. In 1998, she was Grand Marshal of the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, and an active officer in the Commodore Barry Club, Brooklyn Chapter. She also belonged to the AOH-Brooklyn/Staten Island Division and the Flemington Moose Lodge.
She was known as "Ruthie" to her friends, and affectionately called "Nana" by the younger generations. She was predeceased by her husband, John P. Collins, and a grandson, Kevin Cunningham. Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Cunningham of Flemington, NJ, and Laraine Paggiotta and husband, Lou, of Garrison, NY. She leaves behind her grandchildren: John Cunningham (Maureen), Maura Taggert (Mark), and Martin Cunningham (Patty); her granddaughter-in-law, Sandy Cunningham; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Three Bridges, NJ. Interment will be private in Pinelawn Cemetery, Long Island, NY under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
