Ruth Wolf

June 22, 1930 — August 20, 2020

Ruth Wolf, 90, passed away on August 20, 2020 in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Born Ruth Ilsa Seligmann in Frankfurt, Germany in 1930, she was a Holocaust refugee, fleeing the Nazi regime and emigrating to British occupied Palestine in 1938. She grew up in Tel Aviv and lived through the Israeli War for Independence before immigrating to the USA with her family in 1948, settling in the Washington Heights section of New York where she met the love of her life, Manny (Manfried) Wolf, another German immigrant, in 1950. Married in 1951, they settled in Flemington, NJ, where they started their family and remained until Manny’s death in 2011.

Living on and working the family farm up until its final sale in 2019, Ruth and Manny embraced the American dream. The farm grew and prospered, first as a small dairy farm and then to a large operation with well over 100 cows milked twice daily as well as buying and selling cattle for the beef market. In the 1970’s, the dairy business was switched over to beef supply and a portion of the farm dedicated to Manny’s passion – breeding and raising Standardbred trotters under the Wolf name. After Manny’s death in 2011, she remained on the farm, raising an organic grass-fed beef herd during the summers up until the age of 87. Ruth was always an integral part of the business, even learning how to jog a horse, just to show everyone that she could do it.

Throughout her life, she was also dedicated to charitable pursuits, volunteering at Hunterdon Medical Center, the Hunterdon Developmental Center and Camp Isabel. She also founded the Million Penny Fund, featured on CNN. But most of all, her life centered around her family and her Jewish faith.

Ruth is survived by her children, Michael (Carol) Wolf, Steven (Stephanie) Wolf, and Elana (Lester) Gross, six grandchildren, Lisa, Adam (Larissa) , Jessica (Liron), Jordan (Amy), Philip, and Ryan and six great-grandchildren, Victoria, Jacob, Jackson, Aviv, Yael, and Danielle.
