Salvatore “Sam” Occhipinti, DVM, age 85, died Sunday, March 22, 2020, at his home in Raritan Township NJ, where he has lived since 1970.
Born February 17, 1935 in Midland Park NJ, Sam was the son of the late Joseph and Concetta (Cintola) Occhipinti.
Sam served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 where he worked processing personnel at Fort Dix NJ.
After completing his time in the military, Sam worked for American Cyanamid in West Windsor NJ and then completed his veterinarian degree at the University of Pennsylvania and began working in South Orange NJ, and later moved the practice to Hillsborough NJ.
In 1986, Sam opened a unique mobile veterinarian practice where he served the Somerset and Hunterdon County area by travelling to the homes and farms to provide services to those animals.
Throughout the years, Sam and his late wife, Roberta, loved to travel across the United States in their motor home visiting many places along the way.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Roberta Larkin in 2016, Sam was also predeceased by his brother, Frank Occhipinti in 1966. He is survived by his two brothers, John Occhipinti of Tampa FL, and James Occhipinti of Waldwick NJ, as well as his niece, Lisa Tabaku of Washington DC, and his nephew, Frank D. Occhipinti of Woodland WA.
A Memorial service for Sam is being planned and will announced at a later date. Cremation services and interment in Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
