Samuel J. Altamura, age 83 years, of Branchburg Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in the Somerset Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bridgewater Township, NJ.

Born in Bound Brook, NJ, July 13, 1927, son of the late Nicholas and Filomena Lattanzio Altamura, he had resided in Branchburg Township since 1958.

A United States Marine Corps Veteran, Mr. Altamura was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. He worked for Shop-Rite/Wakefern Foods for over fifty-two years, starting out as a meat-cutter, then becoming District Manager and finally retiring as a Vice-President of Foodarama.

An avid traveler, photographer and cook, Mr. Altamura was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Flemington, NJ. He was also a charter member of the Bound Brook Loyal Order of Moose, #988 as well as a member of American Legion Post #12, Somerville, NJ.

He was pre-deceased by a sister, Jennie Romano.

Surviving are his wife with whom he would have celebrated sixty years of marriage this upcoming May, Lillian Sheredos Altamura; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Altamura-Roll and Steven Roll of Flemington, NJ; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Jodi Altamura of Manalapan, NJ; three grandchildren, Rebecca and Luke Samuel Altamura and Christopher Roll; two sisters, Mary Grab of Martinsville, NJ and Josephine Hepler of Bound Brook, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will take place Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Calvary Episcopal Church, New York Avenue and Broad Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the Church on Monday.
