Sandra Louise Crater, age 83, died Monday, January 10, 2022 at Rolling Hills Care Center in Clinton Township, NJ.
Born November 4, 1938, in Plainfield NJ, Sandra was the daughter of the late Edgar and Estelle (Carkhuff) Keller. After graduation from Plainfield High School in the Class of 1956, she studied at the Berkeley Secretarial School and worked for a brief time for Dr. Sam Culberson in Somerville NJ.
Sandra married the late Claude M. Crater in March 1961, and after the birth of their three children, the two eventually moved to Rocky Hill NJ in 1969, where they lived for 28 years, and then purchased Round Tree Farm in Ringoes in 1997.
After moving to Ringoes, Sandra loved living on the farm and the solitude it provided. She enjoyed the many fox hunts that made their way through the farm, as well as the other animals; rabbits, turkeys, deer, foxes, and all of the many birds that loved to frequent her feeders. Over the years, she treasured her many dogs who were at her side many times throughout the day. She kept a vegetable garden filled with tomatoes, green beans, and assorted flowers.
Sandra is survived by her two sons, John M. (Barbara) Crater of Hopewell NJ, and Scott C. Crater of Milford NJ, her daughter, Amy L. (Mark) Whittaker of Flemington NJ, her sister, Judy (Gerry) Misiak of Whitehouse Station NJ, and her six grandchildren, Kelly, Steven, Gerrit, Gage, Corey and Megan.
Funeral services and burial in Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains NJ will be private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
