Shih Fong Li, age 97 years, of Kendall Park, NJ, died on Friday, June 10, 2016 in Park Place Center, Monmouth Junction, NJ.
Born in Chiangsu Province, China, November 8, 1918, son of the late Shao Lien Li and Lia Pao Kuo, he was formerly of Kendall Park, NJ.
In 1939 Shih Fong entered the Chinese Military Academy and became Second Lieutenant as a platoon leader. During his time in the Chinese Military he held positions of Staff Officer in Nanking, Liaison Officer in Ministry of National Defense, and Company Commander in Signal Corp. He was awarded the Medal of Freedom by the United States Government for his service as Liaison Officer for the Headquarters of the United States Third Amphibious Corp. in North China.
He worked as a Deputy Military Attaché for the Chinese Embassy in Turkey and worked for the Embassy of Taiwan in Beirut, Lebanon. Retiring from the military in 1984, he worked for the Government of Taiwan at the International Relation Institute as a researcher and librarian.
Surviving are his wife Ru Ding Li; two daughters, Angela Li and Iris Li both of Flemington, NJ; one son, Mu Sheng Li of Jamesburg, NJ and four grandchildren, Mark Pinkerton, Jr., Jo Huang, Lucy Huang and Hank Huang. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ. A calling hour from 10:00-11:00 a.m. will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
