Sophia T. Potash, age 90 years, died Monday, September 26, 2016, at her Raritan Township home surrounded by her family.
Born May 31, 1926, in Newark NJ, Sophia was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Wertz) Malczynski. She was raised in Newark and after the marriage to the late Jerome Potash, the couple lived in Patterson and then Wayne NJ where they started their family. In 1966, Sophia and Jerome moved to Flemington where she has lived since.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Sophie was the CEO of Magnetic Technologies of Raritan Township, and for many years was a Communicant at St. Magdalen Church in Flemington and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Three Bridges NJ.
Sophia was a “giver,” always putting her family, friends and others before herself. She gave of herself tirelessly to the benefit of all she came in contact with; Sophie and her Husband, Jerome, travelled the world, loved adventure and lived life to the fullest. They took every opportunity to host large gatherings for family and friends filled with love and laughter. As parents, they showed their children and grandchildren, through amazing example, what genuinely mattered in life. Sophie lived a life of love and compassion, she will be missed tremendously by many but her example will stay with us forever.
In addition to her parents, Sophie was predeceased by her eight siblings, Antoinette, Joseph, Frank, Katherine, Genevieve, Mary, John and Leon; her niece, Roberta and grand-niece, Lisa, as well as her beloved husband of sixty years, Jerome Potash who passed in 2015. She is survived by her sister, Sr. Mary David of Lodi, NJ, her two sons and two daughters, Richard Potash of Duxbury MA, Diane Potash of Flemington NJ, Robert Potash of Dedham MA, and Lori Ann Potash of Bloomingdale NJ; and her six grandchildren, Rebecca, Chloe, Benjamin, Carson, Casey, and Samantha.
