Sophie Swackhamer

Sophie Swackhamer, age 94 years, of Stewartsville, NJ, formerly of Clinton Township, NJ, died Friday, April 7, 2017, at Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Woodhaven, NY, August 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Sophia Sokoloski Chilmonik.

Sophie was a graduate of Flemington High School and was employed in the housekeeping department of the Hunterdon Medical Center for twenty-eight years. In 1984, she received the Lloyd B. Wescott Award from the Hunterdon Medical Center.

She was pre-deceased by three sisters, Vera Mount, Frances Abbott and Helen Kerr; six brothers Frank,, Edward, Bernard, George, John and Edmund Chilmonik; and by her husband, David H. Swackhamer, in 1994.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen L. Hager of Stewartsville, NJ and Connie Putz of Tucson, AZ.; a son, David E. Swackhamer of Sergeantsville, NJ; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at 1:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Newell Cemetery, Stanton, NJ. Calling hours will be Tuesday 12 Noon-1:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Baldrick's Foundation, ATTN; Rays of Hope Fund, 1333 S.
