Stanley Robert Morrison, age 87 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Carbondale, PA on December 27, 1924, son of Anthony Morrison and Stella Knapick Morrison, he had resided in Raritan Township for the past twenty-two years. He had formerly lived in Carbondale, PA, Manville and Somerville, NJ.
He attended Bound Brook High School before enlisting as a paratrooper in the Army in 1943 during World War II where he served as a Rifleman PFC in Parachute Rifle Company A of the 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 17th Airborne Division. He saw active duty in battles and campaigns in Central Europe, the Rhineland and the Ardennes. On January 15, 1945, he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge of the Ardennes campaign in Belgium for which he received a Purple Heart. He received numerous other decorations and citations during his military service.
After the war, he went onto college and received an Associate's degree from John Marshall School of Law in Jersey City, NJ and then went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.
After college, Mr. Morrison was employed by the Somerset County Welfare Board from 1950-1963, first as a counselor and then as the Board Supervisor. From 1963-1973 he worked in the men's retail clothing business, most notably he was a partner with his brother, Edward Morrison at Morrison's Men's Shop in Somerville, NJ from 1963 until 1967 when the business was sold.
From 1974-1990, Mr. Morrison was employed by the New Jersey State Department of Health, first as a Field Representative in the Division of Narcotics and Drug Abuse Control and later as a Senior Field representative for the Departments Health Facilities Evaluation Unit.
Mr. Morrison's interests and hobbies included fishing and gardening after his retirement as well as attending many Company "A" Army reunions which have been held continuously since 1948.
His wife of fifty-seven years, Rosemarie Arena Morrison, died in 2007.
Surviving are two sons, Brian and Garry Morrison, both of Flemington, NJ and a daughter, Sandra Morrison of Lahaska, PA.
A Memorial Service with Inurnment will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Magdalen Mausoleum, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There are no calling hours.
