Stephen F. Ober, age 56 of Hunterdon Developmental Center Clinton NJ, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family and friends on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington NJ.
Born in New York City, June 10, 1958, he was the son of the late Dr. William B. Ober and Rhoda Schott Ober. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his favorite uncle, Howard M. Schott, and his beloved teacher and friend Laura "Lolly" Pinkard and his dog Tally.
Stephen lived at home with his family in Hackensack and Tenafly NJ until 1966 when he entered the Dr. Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster MA. In 1974 at age 16 he moved to Hunterdon Developmental Center. He Lived in Cottage 12 until 2008 and then moved to his most recent home Cottage #6.
Stephen enjoyed participating in a variety of Adult Programs At HDC including Creative Dramatics, Music program, Physical Therapy, and Jewish Services. He was an Honary member of the Flemington Jewish Community Center. He loved community outings, going to restaurants, Atlantic City, shopping at Walmart, listening to music, dogs of all breeds, spending time with friends and traveling through automatic doors "magic" doors.
He is survived by his sister Elaine M. Ober, brother in law Peter Skagestad, and nephew Erik Skagestad all of Brookline MA, and his many friends and caregivers from the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton NJ.
Stephen will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and his ability to make others laugh.
