Stephen Peter David Cucé, age 78, of Flemington NJ, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township NJ.
Born in Brooklyn NY on April 26, 1938, Stephen was the son of the late Peter and Lillian (Uncino) Cucé. He moved to Somerville as a young boy and graduated from Somerville High School where he was a member of the high school tennis team. He then completed his undergraduate and Master’s Degree in English from Seton Hall University and was a member of the tennis team there as well.
Stephen taught English and coached tennis in the Bridgewater school system for many years. He was a writer of short stories and essays, and was proud to have one of his stories published by the Sunday NY Times – a humorous piece about the difficulties in job searching. A man of many talents, Stephen was a local magazine editor at one time and also a teacher for a GED program in Flemington.
As a keyboard player in high school, Stephen was a member of “The Belvedere’s,” a local band which had the opportunity to professionally record some of their songs. A talented chef, he loved cooking and spending time in his garden. In 1977, Stephen and his wife, Mary Anne, purchased and operated a local restaurant, “The Mousetrap,” where he was the chef.
In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his brother, Leon Cucé. He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne (Lagana) Cucé, his son Peter Cucé of Brooklyn NY, his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and William Evans of East Texas PA, his granddaughter, Virginia Evans, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nina and Vincent DiFusco of Baldwin NY.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 pm, at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ. Interment will be private at Prospect Hill Cemetery on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, Donation in Stephen’s name may be made to the Hunterdon Land Trust, 111 Mine St, Flemington, NJ 08822.
