Steve lost his battle to Pancreatic cancer on March 20th, 2015. In a fitting tribute this was the first day of spring bringing a snowstorm to his home in Pittstown. NJ.
Steve grew up in Glen Head, NY and as a young man was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying his dogs, hunting, and fishing. He also had a talent for restoring and racing Corvettes and enjoyed riding motorcycles, Harley Davidsons.
Always an animal lover, Steve found his calling to horses at age 18 when he began his long career as a blacksmith. Steve found love and friendship with another horse lover, Joann Ingrassia. They began their married life on Long Island, but soon moved to Lambertville NJ where they bought their first farm. Their daughter Jenna Lee was born on New Years Day in 1986. After 10 years in Lambertville, the family moved to a traditional, albeit rundown, 250 year old cow farm in Pittstown NJ. Steve transformed the property into a beautiful horse farm. Steve had a unique talent for
making or fixing virtually everything, which allowed the farm to run smoothly. His talents extended to the kitchen, which kept Joann and Jenna well fed and happy.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Joann and daughter Jenna, his sister Melanie Halder Zukas, and brother Robert Halder.
