Steven James Gillberg

Steven James Gillberg, age 39 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Monday, October 8, 2018 at his home.

Born in Somerville, NJ, August 4, 1979, he was the son of James E. and Janice (Norman) Gillberg of Raritan Township, NJ.

Steven was a 1997 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School and received his B.S. in Microbiology from Rutgers University. Steven was currently a Supervisor of Molecular Biology with Charles River Laboratories, Malvern, PA. He had previously worked for Sanofi, Celgene, and Zoll. While in high school, he was a member of numerous bands including the Marching Band, Jazz Band, and the Choir. Steven played the trumpet and played taps for many Memorial Day celebrations, as well as with the Blawenburg Community Band. He was a member of the International Thespian Society, and was also an avid Christmas Caroler at 5:30 AM Christmas morning, a Flemington tradition.

Steven was a former Eagle Scout and received the Order of the Arrow. He was an active volunteer for the New York City Relief Bus and enjoyed rescuing dogs, fostering and rehabilitating them.

A longtime member of the Flemington Presbyterian Church, Steven was a recipient of the Van Doren Scholarship, participated in the Volunteers in Mission, and recently was an active member and volunteered in various capacities with the Liquid Church in Parsippany, NJ.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Tracy L. (Cox) Gillberg; his daughter, Mia L. Gillberg; his stepson, Rafael Genao; his sister, Kirsten (Gillberg) Nast, of Raritan Township, NJ; his paternal grandmother, Elaine Gillberg, of Littleton, CO; his uncle, Carl Allan Gillberg; his nephew, Liam James Nast; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11 AM in the Flemington Presbyterian Church, 10 East Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 4-7 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
