Ted (Theodore) George Blew, Jr., age 67 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died on Monday, February 17, 2014 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born October 27, 1946 in Pottsville, PA, he was the son of the late Theodore George Blew, Sr. and Stella Mae Stibitz Blew. He graduated from Emmaus High School, Emmaus, PA in 1964 and then from the Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture in Doylestown, PA in 1968 with a BS in Agronomy.
During his college years, Ted worked for Seem Seed Farms (presently Seedway) in Emmaus, PA. Post college, Ted moved to Ringoes, NJ in May of 1970 when he worked for Cooperative Farms. Ted met his future wife, Susan Johnson when her parents sold their dairy and horse farm in Ringoes and he moved onto their former farm.
Ted and Susan married on June 9, 1973 and purchased their 160 acre farm, Oak Grove Plantation, in Franklin Township on August 26, 1977. They celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary on June 9, 2013.
He loved agriculture and retailed the farm’s products at the Union Square Greenmarket in Manhattan, NY, three days a week.
Ted and Susan were instrumental in getting the NJ Farm Building Code amended to ensure that the construction of commercial farm buildings is not impeded by overly restrictive construction requirements.
He was a member of the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture; the NJ Farm Bureau; the Franklin Township Land Use Board; the Franklin Township Agricultural Advisory Committee; was the Treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 108 in Franklin Township; was a longtime member of Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church, Ringoes, NJ; and attended the Quakertown United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Johnson Blew; daughter Charity and son-in-law, Jeff Stasyshyn; son Eric and daughter-in-law, Katie Blew; daughter Amanda and son-in-law, Pete Maddalena; son, Jonathan Blew; a brother, Bruce Blew in New Orleans, LA; and he was blessed to see the birth of his first granddaughter, Rosemary Blew as well as his first grandson, Zachary Stasyshyn, both born in 2013.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Quakertown United Methodist Church, 1187 Croton Road (Route 579), Quakertown, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ after one final pass through his beloved Oak Grove Plantation. Calling hours will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
