Terry Randolph Brown

September 8, 1937 — March 22, 2023

Terry Randolph Brown passed away on March 22, 2023, in Charlottesville, VA. He was a good church going man who was well liked throughout the entire community. “Randy” as he was known, was born in Louisa VA on September 8th 1937. He is the son of late Philip Terry and Lucy Nelson both of Louisa.

His dogs were certainly his passion having many over the years that filled the house with love. The Creeker’s, Millie’s, Matso’s and Holly brought him great joy as many of these animals were rescued from tough living conditions. Terry brought joy and love into their lives and they in return gave it right back as loyal and loving companions.

Terry made many lifelong friends through his time in the Air Force, Marine Corps Reserves and graduating from Ohio State University before taking a position with AT&T. The Telephone Company would become his lifelong career as an engineer where he was instrumental in designing and implementing the 4ESS long distance switching system. This achievement allowed him to further his career into an executive management position with Bell Labs until his retirement in 1991.

He was an avid gardener winning many awards in the Flemington Annual Fair including 3 years consecutive 1st place awards for his russet potatoes among other second and third place awards for corn and squash.

He spent a good portion of his early retirement enjoying the Inner Coastal waters of Cape Hatteras, NC before moving back to Louisa 18 years ago. It is here where he contributed his time to the Macedonia United Methodist church as well as feeding the deer and squirrels in the front yard. He continued to garden until he just couldn’t work the plow any longer which I’m sure was tough for him to give up.

Terry was a kind, considerate, and loving man, who put others before himself. His strength of character excelled, even in his weakest moments. Truly loved as he will be terribly missed.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Ann. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Nancy, son Scott, sister Hazel, stepsons Brian and David, 6 grandchildren, 8 nieces and nephews and beloved dog Holly.

A viewing is scheduled for Friday March 31st from 6-8pm at the Woodward Funeral home in downtown Louisa. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday April 1st at the Macedonia United Methodist Church in Louisa. Interment with military honors will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
