Thomas Szymanski, age 71 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died on Sunday, July 4, 2010, in the Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY.
Born in Manville, NJ, October 23, 1938, he was the son of the late Anthony and Katherine Nowosielski Szymanski. He had resided in Readington Township since 1974.
A graduate of Bound Brook High School class of 1956 and having received his B.A. in Sociology and Psychology and his Masters in Education from Rutgers and after attending the Rutgers University Summer School of Alcohol Studies, Mr. Szymanski was retired from the New Jersey Department of Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and had formerly worked for the New Jersey Rehabilitation Commission.
He was an avid gardener, New York Yankees fan, had a passion for fishing, and was a member of the New Jersey Chapter of the Rhododendron Society, the Watnong Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society and was active in the Senior Center where he was a history buff and woodworker.
He dearly loved his wife and children. Some of his happiest times in life were witnessing his daughters each graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with honors.
He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Esther Szymanski, a brother, Carl Szymanski, and a sister, Veronica Yarnall. Surviving are his wife of forty-eight years, Florence Kotulich Szymanski; a daughter and son-in-law, Laurine and Jim Gilbert of Bernardsville, NJ; a brother, Anthony Szymanski of Branchburg, NJ; and two sisters, Irene Dunsavage of Maplewood, NJ, and Catherine Szymanski of Columbus, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 8PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private in St. Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6-8 PM in the funeral home.
