Thomas Anthony Damone, age 100, died Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township NJ.
Born October 5, 1921 in Brooklyn NY, Thomas was the son of the late Michael and Carmelia (Cerullo) Damone. He grew up in Brooklyn and moved to Bridgewater in the 1950’s where he built his family’s house on Mountaintop Road. He later moved to Flemington in 2016.
Thomas was a proud veteran of World War II, where he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Charrette (DD-581), primarily serving in the Pacific Theater from 1942-1946.
After the war, Thomas joined his father’s business, Damone Elevator Company, where he provided installation and maintenance for elevators in New York City and the surrounding area.
Thomas loved horses, and he owned and managed several racehorses, and his favorite movie was, “Secretariat,” which he enjoyed watching from time to time. After his retirement, Thomas spent more time raising and racing pigeons, and he was a long-time member of the Bound Brook Pigeon Club. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased in 2017 by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Marino) Damone, and his son, David Damone, in 1990. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Cindy Damone of Bridgewater NJ, his daughter, Donna Booth of Flemington NJ, his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Richard Stachura of Delaware, as well as his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Military honors and funeral services officiated by Rev. Christopher Small will be held at 12:00 pm Noon on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in the chapel at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge NJ 07920. Burial in the family plot will follow immediately after the service. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street in Flemington NJ.
