Thomas Casavant, age 75 years, of Bridgewater, NJ, died Monday, April 25, 2016, at RWJ University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ.
Born in Manchester, NH., September 18, 1940, son of the late Emmett and Grace McLaughlin Casavant, he had resided in Bridgewater since 1978.
Tom was a United States Navy veteran, serving 1958-1962 and was discharged with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class.
A graduate of St. Raphael's Grammar School and Bishop Bradley High School, Manchester, NH. Class of 1958, Tom also graduated from St. Anselm's College, Manchester, NH. He received his Master’s in Education from Seton Hall University in 1968 and completed his course work for his doctorate from Rutgers University. Certified as a Principal and Supt. of Schools, Tom was employed as a science teacher by South Plainfield Board of Education, Science Dept. Chair, Coordinator of Science and District Supervisor of teachers. He was also South Plainfield's District Safety Officer. He retired in 1995 after thirty years devoted to education.
He was a former member of the Jaycees, South Plainfield, NJ. He loved golf and fishing and played golf at many local venues in NJ, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Florida. He was a former member of East Orange Golf Club, Millburn Golf Cub and Copper Hill Golf Club, Ringoes, NJ and enjoyed winning numerous golfing competitions and the camaraderie of his friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother,George.Surviving are his wife of fifty years, Mary Lou Powers Casavant; his son John (Katherine Gibbs); of Cross River, NY; a daughter, Aimee (William Pascuzzo) of Branchburg, NJ; four grandchildren, Olivia and Matthew Casavant, and Will and Sam Pascuzzo. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Joan Bell of Winter Springs, FL. and Denise Casavant of Southbury, CT; nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 1, 2016, 1:30-3:30 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
