Thomas Karkas, Sr.

Thomas Karkas, Sr., age 83, of Delaware Township NJ died Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Rehab at River’s Edge in Bridgewater NJ. Born February 10, 1938 in Litochoro, Greece, Thomas was the son of the late Nicholas and Maria Karkas. He immigrated to the United States in 1954, Thomas first lived and worked as a chef in New York City, then with his uncle in Philadelphia, before moving to Hunterdon County where he has lived since. He was a chef with the former Circle Diner in Flemington for many years. After marrying the late Alice Hughes, and starting their family, the two purchased a home in Delaware Township where he has lived since. Thomas enjoyed caring for his Koi pond and his garden, taking particular pride in the trees, shrubs, and landscaping surrounding his home. Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Alice, in 2020, his son, Nick in 2006, his brother, James, and his sister, Helen. He is survived by his sons, David Karkas of Delaware Township and Thomas Karkas, Jr., of Kingwood Township, his four grandchildren, Nick, Kyle, Chris, and Tara, as well as his three great-grandchildren, Nick, Avery and Marley.
