Thomas P. Deangelis, Phd

Thomas P. DeAngelis, Ph.D. (71) of Flemington, NJ, passed away on January 15, 2023, at Hunterdon Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

Thomas was born on April 2, 1951, to Nicholas and Assunta (Lista) DeAngelis in Darby, PA. After attending Cardinal O’Hara High School, he was incredibly proud to graduate from Villanova University with a BS in Chemistry. He then earned a Ph.D. in Electroanalytical Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1976 in just 3 years. Notably, he was the fastest person at that time to complete the program.

Tom spent the next 40 years as a research scientist. The majority of his career working for Corning Glass Works, Geo-Centers, and Sci-Tech, Inc. He earned 13 patents and is credited with opening an entire new field of research in analytical chemistry.

Tom was a well-rounded person and could frequently be found enjoying the company of friends on the golf course. He was quite proud of making his own clubs and had the handicap to prove the investment was worthwhile. He could also be found flying RC airplanes and taking pictures on the beach in Aruba.

While his work was certainly meaningful, Tom’s primary focus was always at home. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara (Caleix) DeAngelis, his daughter, Patricia and her special friend, Paul Alfano, his son, Christopher (Elena), his brother Nicholas Jr. (Josephine), and sister Susan (Peter) as well as his grandchildren, Jeremiah and Jacob. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his in-laws, George and Florence Caleix.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington NJ 08822. Interment will follow at a later date. Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 am at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822.
