V. Rev. William Sutfin Schneirla

Very Rev. William Sutfin Schneirla, age 98 years, of Stanton, NJ, died Saturday, September 20, 2014, at his home. A resident of Stanton, NJ, for forty years, he had formerly resided in Far Hills, NJ. He was formerly pastor of St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church, Brooklyn, NY for fifty years; was Old Testament Professor at St. Vladimir's Seminary; Vicar General of Western Rite Orthodoxy; and a founding member of Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops. His wife of seventy years, Shirley Dillon Warriner Page Schneirla, died in 2012, and a son,William S. Schneirla, Jr., died in 1948. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Downie Orrill; a son Peter Schneirla; and a sister, Mary Cullen. Burial is private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr.
