Valentine F. Gessner, age 94 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Thursday, December 13, 2007, in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, July 20, 1913, he was the son of the late Valentine and Maria Striefler Gessner, and he was raised in Romania until he was ten years old.
He was a mold maker for Singer Manufacturing Company, Elizabeth, NJ.
He was past president of the Elizabeth Turners; past president of the Singer 25 Year Club; member of the Dowd Boys of Elizabeth, and the Elizabeth Old Guard.
A daughter, Marie A. Gessner Ziegler, died in 1997. Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Eleanor A. Zaunfuchs Gessner; two sons, Robert Gessner of Prescott, AZ, and Raymond Gessner of Flemington, NJ; two brothers, Joseph Gessner of Flemington, NJ, and Anthony Gessner of Kingwood, NJ; and three grandchildren: Veronica Gessner, Adrienne Gessner, and Alex Ziegler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Inurnment will be in St. Magdalen Mausoleum, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
