Wallace J. Cullen (Wally) died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 24, 2012 at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township. He was 89.

Married 66 years, Wally was the beloved husband of Jo Cullen and the devoted father of five children and nine grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation ribbon. He participated in many engagements including the D-day invasion on Mindanao Island in the Pacific.

He was the founder and CEO of Mechanical Precision, Inc. on Hopewell Avenue in Flemington. His company provided precision machining services for businesses throughout the United States. Over the last half century, he saw the “family business” grow to over 50 employees and was actively involved until his recent illness.

His career involved work with the Manhattan Project, missiles during the cold war, equipment of nuclear power plants, and orthopedic implants and provided precision machining services for companies throughout the United States .

Wally was a longtime member of the Flemington chapter of the Lion’s Club and also served for 12 years on the Raritan Township Board of Adjustment.

Surviving are his wife, Jo Cullen; daughters Joanne Cullen Jacoby, Linda Cullen Alexander, and Kim Cullen Black; sons Wallace, Jr. and Michael; and grandchildren Joseph Jacoby, Katharine Jacoby, Sarah Jacoby, Jessica Cullen, Lindsay Cullen, Courtney Alexander, Kerry Cullen and Joshua Cullen, and Alex Lawton; and a brother, Norman Cullen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 10:00 AM in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Tuesday 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Research Institute, National Headquarters, One Exchange Plaza, 55 Broadway, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10006.
