Walter Allegar, age 80 years, of Pohatcong Township, NJ died Sunday, December 18, 2011, at his home.
Born in Raritan Township, NJ, February 27, 193l, son of the late Walter and Matilda Pedrick Allegar, he had formerly resided in Stewartsville, NJ, Washington, NJ, Flemington, NJ and Pittstown, NJ and Cherryville, NJ for thirty-six years.
A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he was formerly employed for thirty-six years as a blending operator and also in the Maintenance Dept. of Tredagar Plastic, Raritan Township, NJ.
He was a member,former trustee, former Sunday School teacher and former custodian of the Cherryville Baptist Church. He was also a member of Flemington American Legion Post #159 of Flemington, NJ; the Flemington Elks Lodge #l928 and the Frenchtown American Legion Post. He was a trustee of the Cherryville Cemetery Association.
He was a disc jockey, with his sister Ruth Allegar, for twenty years at WDVR, Sergeantsville, NJ where he hosted the weekly program Country Roundup.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Taylor Allegar; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Harry Ward of Las Vegas, NV.; a son Anthony Allegar of Wilkes-Barre, PA and Michele Pickell Allegar; a "second son", Frank Knight III of Phillipsburg, NJ; brother, William Allegar of Pendel, PA.; three sisters, Barbara Middleton of Frenchtown, NJ, Ruth Allegar of Phillipsburg, NJ and Henrietta Prushinski of Frenchtown, NJ; six grandchildren, Barbara, George, Lee, and Angie Johnson, Anthony Stewart, II and Alexis Alberta; eight great-grandchildren; and a niece, Diane Dagan, along with several other nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Sandra Johnston in 1992; a sister, Elsie Allegar; and three brothers, Leaver, Earl and Jack Allegar.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday at 11 AM, January 7, 2012, in the Cherryville Baptist Church. Interment in Cherryville Cemetery will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
