Walter E. Uhlman, M.D.

Walter E. Uhlman, M.D., age 77 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at his residence.

Born in Plainfield, NJ, July 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Otto and Emma Martin Uhlman. He had formerly resided in New York City, NY and New Brunswick, NJ, before moving to Raritan Township thirty years ago.

A retired Pathologist, he was head of the Pathology Department and Director of Labratory Services of Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, retiring in 2000.

Dr. Uhlman was formerly the Hunterdon County, NJ Medical Examiner for many years until his retirement in 2000 and at one time was also a Medical Examiner for Somerset County, NJ. After retirement, he continued on as a Medical Examiner Consultant.

He was a United States Army veteran serving 1946-1949. Dr. Ulhman was a member of the Sierra Club and several Medical and Professional organizations. He was an avid cyclist, skier, outdoor enthusiast, and reader. A graduate of Rutgers University, and New York Medical College in 1959. He served his Residency at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. He was a member of the American Board of Pathologists, former member of the American Association of Blood Banks and the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.

Surviving are two sons, Walter P. Uhlman of Succasunna, NJ and Kurt Uhlman of Maplewood, NJ; four grandchildren, Jessica Uhlman of Succasunna and Robert, Olivia and Julia Uhlman, all of Maplewood, NJ; three brothers, Frank Uhlman of Buffalo, NY, Roy Uhlman of Easton, PA and Richard Uhlman in West Chester, PA; three sisters, Marie Powell of Flemington, NJ, Edith Newman of Berwick, ME; and Eugenia Scott of Ocean, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private.
