Wilda C. Holcombe

Wilda C. Holcombe, age 95 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at her residence.

Born in Raritan Township, NJ, December 16, 1910, daughter of the late William S. and Annie Prall Holcombe, she resided all her life on the farm where she was born.

A graduate of Trenton Normal College (now the College of New Jersey), she received her Masters Degree in Education from Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) and was a lifelong teacher.

She first taught in several one room schools (Warsaw, Vandaleer, Rocktown and Moore Schools), then taught at Lanning Demonstration School, Trenton, NJ, then became Principal at the Ringoes, NJ schools and was last a Helping Teacher with the Hunterdon County Supt. of Schools, teaching reading to teachers and teaching candidates.

Ms. Holcombe was a fifty-year member of the DKG society; a a member of the Hunterdon Soroptimist Club; a member of Grandview Grange, Flemington, NJ; a member of the Jennie Haver Scholarship Fund Committee; a member of the Hunterdon County Historical Society; and was a volunteer with the Hunterdon County Office on Aging and 4-H Clubs.

Surviving is her sister, Evelyn E. Holcombe of Raritan Township, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Ringoes, NJ.
