William G. Bahrt, Jr., age 74 years, of Upper Nazareth Township, PA, died on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at his home.
Born in Hazleton, PA, December 9, 1942, he was the son of the late William and Kathryn Breslin Bahrt. He had resided in Nazareth for the past 10 years, having previously resided in Raritan Township, NJ for many years.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-five years, Susan Orazi Bahrt; his five children: Andrea Bahrt of Milford, NJ, William “Billy” Bahrt III (Debbie) of Easton, PA, Pauline Bahrt of Milford, NJ, David Bahrt of Jersey City, NJ, and Jason Bahrt (Jacob Suarez) of the Bronx, NY; his sisters, Mary Clare Levins (Peter) of Titusville, FL, Malvena Nickel (Peter) of Ringoes, NJ, and Genevieve Polsky (Ron) of Mountainside, NJ; his six grandchildren: Stephanie, William, Thomas, Sophia, Siobhan, and Ava; and his three great-grandchildren: Hayden, Justin, and Sophia.
Bill and Sue attended separate high schools in Elizabeth NJ. He at Thomas Jefferson (all boys) and she at Battin (all girls), lived 3 blocks away from each other but did not meet until a party at a friend’s house when they were teenagers. Never apart after that, he even painted “Susie Q” on the fender of his light green 1950 Ford. They lived in Elizabeth for 10 years when Bill worked for Allied chemical as an acid tank driver. They moved to Raritan Township in 1974 to bring their family up in the country and were so happy to find good friends and a wonderful neighborhood in Cider Mill Estates where they lived for more than 32 years. Bill was on the road as an owner operator for many years, spending the last few before retirement with Johanna Farms. When he was home he found time for his hobbies of HO trains and saltwater fish-both in the tanks as pets and on the hook in the surf. People knew where they stood in a conversation with Bill but what maybe they did not know was that if you were ahead of him in the supermarket checkout line and short of cash he likely would put some toward you or if on the road someone needed help with a meal he’d help. You didn’t easily see his compassion because he tried to always be the tough guy.
