William H. Saunders, age 76 years, of Readington Township, NJ (Whitehouse Station), died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at his home. Born in Trenton, NJ, January 4, l936, son of the late George and Helen Hudnett Saunders, he had formerly resided in Flemington, NJ and in Bridgewater Township, NJ before moving to Whitehouse Station five years ago.

Upon the death of his mother in 1938, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, Lambert and Edna Hudnett, for which he was very grateful. A 1953 graduate of Flemington High School, he was on the basketball team and baseball team and was manager of the football team.

He served in the US Army 1954-1956 and was stationed in Korea. He was interested in history especially the Civil War and 1920's jazz.

A graduate of Newark College of Engineering(now NJIT), with a degree in Mechanical Design, he formerly was associated with Wigton-Abbott; Research Cottrell; Wilputte; and Combustion Engineering in engineering, project management and as project manager.

Surviving are three sons, Stephen, Daniel and Christopher Saunders and two grandchildren. He was very appreciative of his many friends whose help allowed him to live independently in his later years with his companion cats, Reggie and Pepper.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 28,2012, at 10:30AM in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ
