Local artist and antique dealer, William J. Conboy, age 83 years, died Saturday, March 19, 2016 at his home in Delaware Township, NJ.
Born on February 27, 1933, in Yonkers, New York, Bill was the son of the late Irving and Grace Jeanne Heckman Conboy. He lived in Westchester County, NY, before moving to Hunterdon County more than 40 years ago.
Bill joined the United States Army during the Korean War and served in Germany during his enlistment. Upon leaving the Army, Bill joined his father and brother in the commercial printing business in Manhattan NY. Upon moving to Flemington, NJ, Bill was a self-employed residential and commercial painting contractor.
Along with his late wife, Maureen, Bill loved to go camping and was active in the local flea markets where he bought and sold many antiques. Together, they owned and operated an antique store in Flemington for many years.
Later in life, Bill enjoyed painting various pieces of artwork, mostly using acrylics. He was a friend to all animals and cared for many pets and farm animals throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife, Maureen Brown Conboy in 2006 and his brother, Frank Conboy in 2016. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Armand Papasodero of Garrison, NY, his daughter, Cheryl Panache of Globals, MI, his sisters, Dolores Turner and Charlotte Barnes, his grandson, Richard Jennings, his granddaughter, Melissa Smith, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service officiated by the Rev. Pamela Reed, will be at 10 am, Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in Milford Union Cemetery in Milford, NJ. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m at the funeral home.
