William M. Reed, age 75 years, former longtime resident of Flemington, NJ, died on Monday, February 5, 2018 at his home in Lopatcong Township, NJ.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois, February 27, 1942, son of the late George H. and Virginia Morris Reed, Bill had resided in Lopatcong Township since 2016, having lived in Flemington for the prior 45 years.
Bill was a graduate of Pratt Institute, New York, NY with a BS in Engineering, and received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. A self-employed insurance salesperson, he was a member and elder of the Flemington Presbyterian Church and was the Volunteers In Mission (VIM) leader there for twenty-seven years. He committed himself to volunteering and helping others. Bill spent his entire life serving others. He was on the Flemington Borough Planning Board and was Council President under Herman Kapp for a few years. Bill was also a former member of the Flemington Borough Council, serving from 1976-1994, and again in 2011.
He operated a hi-end stereo and music store. Bill Played the saxophone in his own band while in middle school. Later on, as an insurance salesman, he won many awards for outstanding sales. In gratitude they awarded him with extravagant vacations in Hawaii, the Bahamas, Cancun, Bermuda and Tuscon, AZ. He was a devoted son who cared for both of his elderly parents. He set a superb example of honesty, integrity and commitment to his two children.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Judith Ossi Reed, who he had known since kindergarten in Wyckoff, NJ; a daughter, Jennifer Amy Reed of Lebanon, NJ; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew William Reed and Colleen Reed of New Boston, NH; five grandchildren, Cristiana, Elisabeth, Travis, Nathan, and Jacqueline; a sister, Virginia Susan Reed of Hightstown, NJ; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Shirley Ossi of Wichita, KS.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 2 PM in the Flemington Presbyterian Church. Interment was private in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
