William S. Blaher, age 89 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Flemington, NJ, October 1, 1925, son of the late Nathan and Ida Lieberman Blaher, he had resided in the Flemington area all his life.
Bill owned and operated Blaher's Photo & Stationary Store, Flemington, NJ for over thirty years until 1984.
He was a graduate of Flemington High School and was a US Army veteran of World War 2. Bill was in the Battle of the Bulge with the 106th Infantry Division and was among those captured.
He spent time in a German POW Camp and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Bill was a lifelong member of the Flemington Jewish Community Center; a member of the Jewish War Veterans; a fifty year member of the Flemington Lions Club; a fifty year member of the Grandview Grange, Flemington, NJ and remained active with the 106th Infantry Battle of the Bulge veterans. Bill , in later years, visited schools and spoke to students about his World War 2 experiences.
His wife, Miriam Blaher, died in 2009 and his brother, Morris Blaher, died in 2012.
Surviving are two nephews, Neal Blaher and Michael Blaher, both of Orlando, Fl. Also surviving are three step-sons, Jerry Reimer of Milltown, NJ, Cary Reimer of Lambertville, NJ, and Joel Reimer of Flemington, NJ.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2015, at 11:00 AM in the Flemington Jewish Community Center, 5 Sergeantsville Road, Flemington, NJ. Interment with Military Honors will be in Flemington Jewish Community Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
