Yang Rae Baek

December 9, 1927 — April 7, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce Yang Baek passed away on Tuesday, April 7th, 2020 at Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown, NJ. She was 92 years old.

Born December 9th, 1927, in Buyeo, South Korea, Yang was the daughter of the late Naik Baek and Bo Kim. At the age of 18, Yang married Yi Hong, but shortly after, lost him to the Korean War. Even in hardships Yang always found a way to provide for her son, Sung Hong, and helped him reach his dream of graduating from Seoul National University. She also encouraged him to broaden his education by completing his Ph.D at the University of Texas in Austin.

Through the help of her son, Yang moved to the United States where she eventually became a citizen. For the following 30 years, Yang enjoyed her time by gardening, cooking for friends and family, and helping raise her granddaughter. She also cherished her fellowship with other senior members at the Praise Presbyterian Church in Somerset, NJ.

From September, 2018, Yang resided in the Country Arch Care Center and enjoyed spending her remaining days praying and singing with her fellow residents, nurses, and caretakers, who she was always proud to call her family. She was a strong role model who will always be remembered for her tough demeanor and undaunted spirit.

Yang is survived by her son, Sung, his wife, Shin, her granddaughter, Deborah, and her husband, Scott.

A memorial service at a later date is being planned - the Hong family will update friends and family with further announcements.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

The Hong family kindly requests that in honor of Yang, all donations be made to either the Country Arch Care Center located at 114 Pittstown Rd, Pittstown, NJ, 08867 or to Morristown Medical Center where her granddaughter and other brave healthcare workers are taking care of patients with CoVID-19.
